You are absolutely correct.

Ideally, the children (via an adult representative like a guardian ad litem) should be placing the ‘listing’, and the potential adopters should be the ‘applicants.’ Prove to us how you are the best person to care for this child, not ‘show us how she is the best kid for this family’.

You are absolutely correct. The current dynamic is backwards and doesn't consider the child at all. The whole picked from a catalog thing is so dehumanizing. Thanks for this thoughtful piece.
